The Bill House.

Set in a Grade II listed Arts & Crafts building, in a beautiful, peaceful location on top of Selsey Bill, West Sussex, The Bill House has clear views across the English Channel to the Isle of Wight. The property was built in 1907, but in recent years it has been reimagined from the ground up with care, comfort and wellbeing at the forefront of every decision.

In 2021 The Alexander Group were looking for a thoughtful remodel to improve the home for the residential clients and staff of the charming property. They needed to enhance its functionality, and appeal, whilst also considering the needs and limitations of both the residents and the listed building- no mean feat!

Wanting to connect the residents, building and landscape, our designs took their cues from the unique coastal backdrop, we employed biophilic principles (colour combinations and textures from the surrounding nature) to work in harmony throughout the home, focusing on those aspects of the natural world that have been proven to positively contribute to good health, well-being and productivity.

This principle also underpinned our choice of materials for furnishings, fittings and accessories which needed, at all times, to have the end-users in mind. Hard wearing, slip-resistant and washable fabrics were essential. Designs needed to encourage way-finding, outline features and encourage recognition of rooms and fittings. Spaces needed to feel safe and designs non- bewildering.

An immensely rewarding project that continues underway with phase two, the remodel of more bedrooms and en-suites.
